Choreography Competition Announcement

Posted June 15, 2009

Choreography Groups are reminded that if they are using recorded music it must be available on a CD cued to start with playing instructions clearly written on the CD specifying when the music should be started (i.e. dancers on stage prior to start of music; dancers dance on using music).

Please remember that Small Group Choreographies should not exceed 3 minutes including entrances and exits and Large Group Choreographies should not exceed 4 minutes. There will be a short grace period (approximately 30 seconds) to make allowance for any discrepancies in audio equipment.

In the Small and Large Group Choreography Events on July 1st, 50% of the number of groups performing in the Preliminaries (rounding up where necessary) will be selected to compete in the Choreography Finals immediately following the Opening Ceremonies that evening.

The winning choreography group in each age group will receive a keeper award; the top 3 choreography groups in each age group will receive cash prizes;and all choreography groups performing in the Finals will receive medals.

Small Group Choreography Fills Up and Then Some...

Posted May 18, 2009

Due to the popularity of the Small Group Choreography Event, more than the “maximum of 20 groups” stated on the Entry Form have been accepted. This event will now be split into 3 age groups instead of 2 with not more than 10 entries in each group.

Entries for Small Group Choreography are now officially closed.  If any of the accepted groups discover that they will not be carrying through with their choreography entry, please notify Elizabeth Smith at entry2009@sympatico.ca  immediately so that arrangements can be made to fill the spot with another group from the “Wait List.”

Entries for the Large Group Choreography will remain open until May 29, 2009 or until a maximum of 16 entries is reached.

SDCCS 2009 Panel Discussion with World Champion Highland Dancers

Posted January 2, 2009

This invitation is extended to all former World Champions who have retired from competitive Highland Dancing. The organizers of SDCCS 2009 are planning a motivational panel discussion for the participants and support groups attending the Series. We are inviting former World Champions who will be in Toronto during the Championship Series July 2009 to be part of our panel. We will be asking the dance community to submit questions in the months leading up to the event. We will select some of the questions for the panel to answer. These will all be prepared and discussed with the panel in advance. There will be no questions from the floor. This event will take place at the host hotel, the Sheraton Centre, at 7PM just prior to the Teachers’ and Judges’ Reception on Thursday July 2, 2009.

This will also be a great photo opportunity. We will have the event photographer take a souvenir group picture of all current and former World Champions who are in attendance.

If you would like to be part of the panel, please email Deborah Wardrope at wardrope123@rogers.com. Your assistance in forwarding this message to a wider audience is very much appreciated.

To the dancers, parents and interested support groups, if you have a question that you would like the panel to answer, please forward it to Deborah Wardrope at wardrope123@rogers.com for consideration. The deadline for questions will be May 1st, 2009. At the organizer’s discretion, we may decide to close the submission process earlier depending on the response.
